The airwaves have been buzzing with the news of the “defection” of a former governor of Imo State, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, to the All Progressives Congress APC.
First of all, Ohakim did not “defect” to the APC, as he did not previously belong to any political party, and simply joined the party.
Ohakim, had been apolitical, since the 2019 General Elections in Imo State, and had been playing the role of a statesman, offering leadership advise and assistance to the successive administrations of Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, and Senator Hope Uzodinma respectively.
Aside from the long history of friendship he shares with Senator Hope Uzodinma, Ohakim’s entrance into the APC, comes with a lot of benefits, not just to the state govenror, as he pilots the affairs of the state, but generally to the people of the state, who would be the main benefactors of what Ohakim has to offer Uzodinma.
Primarily, Ohakim is bringing leadership and administrative experience to the table, in his decision to join the APC.
As a former governor, who interestingly was rated even by former governor, Rochas Okorocha, as being the best after the late Chief Sam Mbakwe, Ohakim comes armed with a lot of experience Uzodinma will tap into, in his efforts to restore the lost fortunes of the state.
Ohakim, the English would say, knows where “all the bodies are buried”, and will help position the Hope Uzodinma administration, in the right direction to look, in its mission of recovery in the state.
As a meticulous technocrat, his records of what he inherited, as well as what he left behind, and what should be, are all intact, and would come in very handy, in the efforts towards uncovering what Imo have been through in the last eight years, as well as serve as a launching pad, from where the state can move to the next level.
Politically, Ohakim’s entrance into the APC have brought fresh life to the party, especially in Okigwe zone, where the party had almost become listless.
As a powerful stakeholder in Okigwe, Ohakim’s entrance into the APC, which is a validation to the Hope Uzodinma administration, would strengthen the confidence of the people for the Hope Uzodinma administration, and help gander the needed support Uzodinma requires, to move the state forward.
Beyond Okigwe, Ohakim enjoys a lot of love and Goodwill from Imo people across board, and his vote of confidence for the Hope Uzodinma administration, shown by his decision to join the APC, would help win more supporters for the Uzodinma administration.
For Uzodinma, Ohakim’s entrance into the party, comes with many blessings, which by extension will help better the lives and economic well-being of Imo people.
