Former governor of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha, today managed to escape severe beating, in the hands of Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, the Obi of Obinugwu, and former Chairman of Imo Traditional Rulers Council.
The scene was an Air Peace flight heading for Abuja, where the Royal Father descended on Okorocha with his royal staff, beating the former governor on the head, before he was saved from the raging Monarch, by the Captain of the aircraft.
This would be the second time in two months, Okorocha would be faced with direct threat to his physical wellbeing.
The first episode was at the Royal Spring Palm hotels, belonging to his wife Nkechi Okorocha, which was sealed by agents of the Imo State government, at the orders of Senator Hope Uzodinma.
Okorocha had attempted to break into the property, and met stiff resistance from thugs loyal to the state government, led by the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to Senator Hope Uzodinma, Mr. Chinasa Nwaneri.
But for the timely intervention of the men of the Nigerian Police, who officially arrested Okorocha, the thugs were about to descend on the former governor, and their actions against Okorocha may even involve beating him and stripping him, while he was being recorded.
The attack by Ilomuanya, seems to be a signal, that Imolites are spoiling to get their hands on Okorocha, and he might not escape their wrath the third time.
Okorocha’ s era, marked the worst regime in the history of the state. Okorocha has refused to acknowledge that he failed the people, and this has made the people hate him the more, and support Uzodinma’ s effort towards recovering everything he stole from the state.
Okorocha, despite being the first governor, Imo people wholeheartedly voted for, has thrown away the trust given to him by the people, and today, has become the most hated.
Even former governor Ikedi Ohakim, formally adjudged the most hated governor, after some false propaganda were spread against him, claiming he flogged a priest, have suddenly become widely accepted by the people of Imo State, and walks along the streets freely as people cheer him, while Okorocha would not dare walk alone on Imo streets, for fear of being lynched by the people.
Okorocha more recently angered the people the more, when he claimed he was richer than the state. Imo people recalled that he didn’t give account of over N50billion pension fund, the bailout funds from the Federal Government, the Paris Club refunds, and much more, which is believed to be the source of his so- called wealth.
