The factional state Chairman of the Imo State All Progressives Congress APC, Mr. Daniel Madueke Nwafor, have accused the former Imo State finance commissioner, and Federal House of Representatives member representing Okigwe South in the National Assembly, Deacon Chike Okafor, of betraying former governor of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha, as well as selling the party out to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
Nwafor made the allegation on his official Facebook page which reads as follows;
” Chike Okafor after you betrayed Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Rescue Mission family, you lost your booth and your ward in Obowo LGA in recently conducted Dec 5, 2020 Imo North Senatorial elections. As usual you sold your LGA to PDP the same way you did in the Governorship election in 2019″
Okafor, who served Okororcha as Finance commissioner, would later go the the National Assembly in 2015 to represent Okigwe South, with
the help of Okororcha.
His reelection bid, was met with stiff challenge, first from the late Emenike, wherein Okororcha intervened to save Okafor, then later by the current junior minister for education, Hon Emeka Nwajiuba, who ran for the mandate under the Accord Party, and would win Okafor, but would relinquish the ticket to Okafor, after getting his appointment as a minister.
The emergence of Senator Hope Uzodinma, and his decision to continue the probe of Okororcha’ s tenure, as instituted by Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, caused Okafor to choose sides for his own safety, as he dumped Okororcha and his Daniel Nwafor faction, for the Hope Uzodinma backed Marcon Nlemigbo faction.
Okafor came to be appointed by Okororcha through Uche Nwosu, who brought him out from Zenith bank into politics.
Okororcha had severally called on Okafor to reconsider his stand, and return to his original fold, but there are belief, that Okafor, who at one point, nursed a governorship ambition, was probably not happy with Okororcha, for using his as a dummy to deceive President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okorocha had presented Okafor to Buhari as his choice candidate, yet gone back to project Uche Nwosu, a move that is believed not to have gone down well with Okafor.
